New illustration: cover for cap courier

For the most recent issue (vol 44, #5): feature article "New Westminster Apology Barely Scratches the Surface of B.C. Racism: Do public apologies reveal our history, or obscure it?" by Laura Kane, speaks on history of discrimination towards Chinese-Canadians in B.C. as well as the head tax reconciliation movement.

Literature, real literature, must not be gulped down like some potion which may be good for the heart or good for the brain - the brain, that stomach of the soul. Literature must be taken and broken to bits, pulled apart, squashed - then its lovely reek will be smelt in the hollow of the palm, it will be munched and rolled upon the tongue with relish; then, and only then, its rare flavor will be appreciated at its true worth and the broken and crushed parts will again come together in your mind and disclose the beauty of a unity to which you have contributed something of your own blood.

Reel Asian Film Festival cross-Canada tour SENSE OF WONDER and a mention on Schema Magazine!

I forgot to mention that my short animated film "Permute" will be screening with other Canadian films for Toronto's Reel Asian Film Festival cross-Canada tour SENSE OF WONDER in celebration of May being Asian Heritage Month! This screening is also a part of Vancouver's local ExplorASIAN festival celebrations and it will take place at the Pacific Cinematheque, May 25! I will be in attendance for the Q&A.

Also Schema Magazine even mentioned Permute! :D I feel honoured I got my 1 sec. of fame! (That's like 24 frames of animation - lots of hard work man!!)
Check out the Schema article here.

The tour dates are:

Winnepeg // Thu May 13
Montreal // Sun May 16
Ottawa // Tue May 18
Vancouver // Tue May 25

Revista Gooo #9 and new pact: BEAST!

Revista Gooo announced the artists participating in their upcoming issue: Utopias. I am super excited and honoured that my work was chosen to be showcased next to amazing artists (like my awesomely beautiful and talented friend Andrea)! In the past, the magazine has also featured other superstars like Gary Baseman and Nate Williams !! wuaaooohhh!! Can't wait to check it out!

Also, if you are in the area of downtown Vancouver, come by to the new 221a Pact (#5) at our studio/gallery space. I will have some work and there will be fun and food! All the information you can find at the 221a website. Hope to see you there!

Illustration for Ricepaper Magazine

whooo!! I did the cover for Ricepaper Magazine, "RepresentASIANS" issue 15.2 which is out now! The theme resonates strongly with me as it deals with identity and representation of visual minorities in North American culture - so I'm very proud to have been a part of this issue! Ricepaper is Canada's only magazine devoted to showcasing Asian-Canadian artists, writers, performers and innovators. You can check it out/pick one up at Vancouver downtown's Chapters on Robson or check on their website for more info on other locations or subscriptions.

New creepy drawing

Made a creepy b&w ink self portrait based on a craving for pho I've developed ever since moving to 221a haha. I've also made a colour version which you can see on my website!

Opening: Slivers, Shivers & Snake skins

The opening was great fun! Good turn out (I didn't know it would be so busy!), especially running into friends I haven't seen in forever. I just got a photo of some of my work from my friend Dennis Ha who was photo-documenting the show. Unfortunately I didn't think to snap some photos of my own or of other artists since I was totally enthralled by all the awesome performances going on! The show should be up @ Chapel Arts until May 1st by appointment. Check it out if you can!

Flickr page is back!

I totally forgot I had a Flickr account set up. I'm hoping to post most of my photo projects there. Check out a few of the shots I took during a photodoc project of a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class I did in order to submit to one of VIA's open calls! http://www.flickr.com/photos/20824221@N00/sets/72157623901120870/

Slivers, Shivers & Snake skins

Some of my work will be in this show!

Slivers, Shivers & Snake skins - a show curated by Zarah Ackerman.

slivers - something that intrudes upon you physically that is not easy to remove.
shivers - a bodily reaction to your environment.
snake skin - a physical presence, visual, texture, relating to death, slithers, fear

Become affected and delve into an altered state with a heightened sense of being.
Be a part of this mind altering event and participate in a happening where noise reigns supreme and shivers are welcomed.

Pact 4: TRADE @ Centre A, Vancouver

My film "Permute" was screened last night at 221a's Pact 4 show, hosted by Centre A gallery on Hastings and Carrall. Very cool way to project something. You could also see the screenings from outside through the windows. My friend Su-an snapped this very cool pic of both me and Andrea's piece "Revolve" playing at the same time! :D
